MOUNTAIN AND MOUNTAINOUS VILLAGES Mt. PIERIA
PALIA VRIA
An attractive old village with a notable monument in the Church of Agios Nikolaos. Situated in scenic countryside amid restful and refreshing surroundings and ideal picnic areas with good water to drink.
One of the interesting places to visit is the old marble quarry at "Sentoukia" which has been designated a site of archaeological interest. It is 9 kms. from the village.
There is a forest road leading from the village to the summit "Chteni" at a height of 1700 m, from where there are stunning views across forests of pine, beech and fir. There are many beautiful walks through the Pierian mountain forests which start from here, leading to the peaks such as Marmaro, Hteni, Monaho Nero, etc.
The main activities offered here are hiking and climbing, mountain hiking and off road 4 wheel drive motoring. There are taverns catering for your appetite in the new village of Vria.
Situated 26 kms from Katerini with easy access from the main road from Katerini to Elassona (Junction 13km from Katerini, Vria).
