MOUNTAIN AND MOUNTAINOUS VILLAGES Mt. OLYMPUS
PALIA VRONDOU
An old village on the edge of Olympus with an interesting memorial in the Church of Agios Nikolaos (18th c.) Apart from this, the village consists of stone houses in a state of dilapidation and the remains of a school. On your way to Palea Vrondou you will meet the Church of The Holy Trinity (Agia Triada), built on a rock at a height of 420 m.
On the way out of the village one of the largest torrents of Olympus (Torrent Papa) is to be seen, and two of the main footpaths for those wishing to climb Mount Olympus lead off from here. The church of Agia Kori, set in a dramatic gorge with a mountain stream, is 2 km. South of the village and well worth a visit. A charming spot, with space for refreshments next to the chapel, this site is of great importance to those who wish for the recovery of their children, due to its associated legend. A restaurant, refreshments and a children's playground are available, and you can have something to eat and take a rest here. Nearby are the "green lakes", three natural small lakes with miniature waterfalls.
The present day village of Vrondou is 5 km away, with its tavernas, restaurants, kafeneios, coffee bars and clubs to cater for all your entertainment needs. It is situated 21 km. from Katerini and is easily accesible from the road from Katerini to DIon.
