The regional cooking in Pieria includes a wide range of national, local and traditional food, sweets and drinks. The ingredients are grown locally and produce a healthy diet which you are sure to enjoy.
Traditional Greek meals produce unforgettable memories of happy moments, wonderful evening celebrations, warm afternoons spent with your favourite friends and the whole family round the table. Meals which have the beauty and the aroma of rigani, basil, thyme, mint, nutmeg, cinnamon and carnation.
The cuisine of Macedonia and Pieria, an inseparable combination, is typified by all the different sorts of meat produce, cheese products and pies which make up the Macedonian table, which is particularly tasty.
Characteristic of the region is the wide variety of snack foods served, from Bougatsa at breakfast time, Patsas in the evening, and Gyros and Souvlaki throughout the day. Wherever you go in town you can find lentils and beans, pies, roast meat and, particularly during the hunting season, game, as well as fish and seafood, which are served principally by the seaside.
The variety of dishes available has increased with the influx of regional cooking from the Pondos, Sarakatsani and Asia Minor as well as the indigenous population.
Many delicious recipes use the delicious, healthy olive oil, vegetables, flour and fish of the Mediterranean, which forms the basis of Mediterranean cooking.
Most of this food is available in the taverns, restaurants, ouzeries and other food outlets of Pieria. We must not forget to add to this the traditional household cooking of Pieria, which is well worth getting to know.
May we invite you on a journey of discovery along the footpaths of our regional dishes.
