Litochoro,an incomparable composition of natural and traditional colours at the foot of Mt. Olympus and close to the shores of Pieria, in the southern corner of Macedonia. Litochoro, this little town with its long history and rich impressions, spreads over the slopes of Greece's highest mountain. This is the starting point for ventures into the unsurpassed environment at Ulympus, for the excitement of ascending to the home of the ancient gods. Here, at an altitude of 300 m., one can set out on rambles into wooded ravines, places of diverse vegetation, the superb Enipea river valley.

It is worth visiting:
> The old settlement with its vivid traditional colours and the remarkable traditional houses of Macedonian architecture, the traditional squares (Platanos, Horostasi, Naftikon, etc), the Municipal Park "Katounia" with its new cultural center, the picturesque country Churches of Agia Paraskevi, Agion Apostolon, Profiti Ilia, and the New Monastery of Agios Dionisios. It is also worth visiting the site "Myli", the ravine of Enipeas and the fir-tree forest of A. Gianis with its eponymous Church; also, don't miss the organized and wonderful beaches of Variko, Gritsa, and Plaka and Mount Olympus, world famous for its historical interest and its rare flora and fauna.
> Moreover, the "Alexander the Great Foundation Inc", at the Dion - Litochoro junction in Pieria by the Athens - Thessaloniki National Road, is also interesting. It is directed by the Central Council of emigrant Macedonians, whose Head Offices are in New York, U.S.A. (address: 149 - 14 Avenue Whitestone, NY 11357 - 1730, U.S.A.).
The Institute which is responsible for organizing activities at the site, a library devoted to the works and accomplishments of Alexander the Great and many exhibitions related to the life and historical achievements of Alexander and other ancient Greek events are situated within the building. The building is also used for conferences, cultural presentations and other activities run by the Central Council of emigrant Macedonians.
