The climate of Olympus in the lower regions is typical of the Mediterranean, that is to say warm and dry in the summer and wet in the winter.
In the upper regions it is wetter and snow often falls in the winter, with frequent rainfall a summer phenomenon. The temperature ranges from -20C to -10C in the winter, and in general in the summer from 0C to 20C, with wind being a daily feature.
The vast range of the relief of the land, the different orientation of the forested slopes and the layout of the region with its close proximity to the sea have a profound influence on the climate.
This results in the aforementioned heat inversion and dampness, as well as that of the many microclimates throughout the area. The combination of this geological base and terrain gives rise to the specialised vegetation of the area and the character of the plant life.
